Every project is different. Whether you are looking to hang up a large piece of signage with your name and logo onto your building or you simply want an elegant kitchen hood to bring the room together, the metals to complete the project will differ. Variables such as it being outside, if it will be touched often, if it’s a mechanical piece, or if it’s an art piece can all change the metal that will be used. So, as you think up your next project, here is what you can expect.

Aluminum Projects

If your project is within the construction spaces, you will likely use an aluminum metal. This specific metal is extremely lightweight and corrosion-resistant, making it extremely dependable for things like roofing, cladding, and other building materials. Additionally, it is a good conductor of electricity and has a low density, making it great for products that require a high strength-to-weight ratio.

Carbon Steel Projects

If your project involves construction, or machinery, you will likely use carbon steel. It is a very strong and durable metal, ideal for areas that need to withstand a lot of weight or be reliable for a long period of time. Steel is also easily welded and shaped, which can be a great choice for industrial or commercial applications. You might find it in bridges, machine parts, or the inner workings of buildings.

Stainless Steel Projects

Stainless steel is used in projects in the food, medical, and chemical industries, as well as in many architecture and design plans. At Gieske, you will see us use stainless steel in many of our kitchen hoods or any other kitchen or living room design aspects. Stainless steel has a high resistance to corrosion and staining, which makes it ideal for harsh and commonly used environments.

Brass Projects

Brass is commonly used in projects related to plumbing, musical instruments, or decorative items. You might recognize many statues being made of brass as it is a very corrosion-resistant material and easy to machine, allowing it to be made into practically anything. Additionally, many of our household and commercial pipes, values, HVAC system components, and sinks utilize brass.

Copper Projects

Copper is excellent at electrical and thermal conductivity, making it well-suited for electrical wiring, plumbing, and construction projects. Many of our monitors, electronics, household wiring, and water supply systems utilize copper because of its corrosion resistance and ability to conduct heat and electricity efficiently. Additionally, you might also find copper in decorative pieces such as doorknobs, hinges, lighting fixtures, jewelry, or art.

Make It Your Own

Specific metals are chosen depending on what the project is, where it will be, and what it will be used for; however, that does not mean you are stuck with that generic coloring or shine. You can make the project your own even after choosing the metal. If you have signage or a decorative piece you want to elevate, you can choose different paints or powder coats to change the coloring and shine options available to you. The finishing style you choose can also change the texture to make it anything from matte to mirrored. The look of the piece is not always set by the metal you choose. If you have a specific vision, speak with a metal fabricator to see what is possible!
