Techniques and Equipment Gieske Uses for Custom Copper Metal Fabrication
Cutting
To start any copper fabrication project, we typically begin with cutting sheets down to size. We use state-of-the-art equipment to achieve the precise cuts needed to fabricate a brass metalworks project:
- CNC high-speed laser cutting
- CNC water jet cutting
- CNC plasma shape cutting
- Hot chop saw
- Cold saw
- Metal plate shear
- Large band saw
Forming
Once we have made the necessary cuts, we mold the pieces of copper into the desired shape using forming techniques like bending, rolling, and pressing. During this stage, the shape of the metal will change, but its mass remains the same. Gieske utilizes several pieces of equipment for copper forming, including:
- CNC brake
- CNC tube bender
- Powered slip rolls
Joining
To create the final fabricated product, the cut and formed pieces of copper are assembled using fusion or mechanical techniques (or both). Our copper fabrication joining techniques include:
- TIG welding
- Drill press
- Soldering & brazing
- Riveting
Finishing
The final step of copper fabrication is finishing. We offer a wide range of finishing options to meet the specific requirements of your project. In-house, we provide polishing services that can achieve a brushed, mirrored, or angel hair finish using various techniques:
- Hand finishing
- Custom grinder finishing
- Cloth buffing wheels
- Orbital sander
- 8’ Directional belt sander
- Drill press
Additionally, we regularly partner with external companies to offer other finishing options such as powder coating, plating, anodizing, and more.
