Techniques and Equipment Gieske Uses for Custom Fabricated Aluminum Projects

    Cutting

Cutting is typically the first and most common step in the aluminum sheet metal fabrication process. Gieske utilizes several types of state-of-the-art equipment to make any cuts your aluminum fabrication project might require:

    • CNC high-speed laser cutting
    • CNC water jet cutting
    • CNC plasma shape cutting
    • Hot chop saw
    • Cold saw
    • Metal plate shear
    • Large band saw

    Forming

Using forming techniques like bending, rolling, and pressing, aluminum is shaped into the desired form. The metal does not lose any mass during this process—only the form changes. We use various types of equipment to form aluminum, including:

    • CNC brake
    • CNC tube bender
    • Powered slip rolls

    Joining

After the aluminum components have been cut and formed to the necessary specifications, we move on to joining or assembling the components. There are many joining techniques (both fusion and mechanical). Some of our joining techniques for aluminum fabrication include:

    • Spatter welding
    • TIG Welding
    • Drill press
    • Soldering & brazing
    • Riveting

    Finishing

We offer a variety of finishing options to meet your project's specific requirements. In-house, we provide aluminum polishing services that can achieve brushed, mirrored, or angel hair finishes using different techniques, including:

    • Hand finishing
    • Custom grinder finishing
    • Cloth buffing wheels
    • Orbital sander
    • 8’ Directional belt sander
    • Drill press

Additionally, we frequently collaborate with external partners to offer other finishing options, such as powder coating, plating, anodizing, and more.

Your FAQs Answered by Our Expert Aluminum Fabricators

    What is aluminum fabrication?

Aluminum fabrication is the process of shaping aluminum into specific products or components through techniques such as cutting, forming, joining, and finishing. Due to aluminum’s lightweight, durable, and corrosion-resistant properties, this process is used in various industries, including construction and manufacturing.

What is your geographic service area for aluminum fabrication projects?

This depends on the specifics of the project. For some projects, we are limited to providing service and installation within a ~100-mile radius of Kansas City. But we often accommodate projects across the country when shipping costs do not inhibit us from providing competitive pricing. Contact us with the details of your project, and we’ll go from there!

What types of aluminum do you work with?

We work with various grades of domestically sourced aluminum. Each grade has unique properties suitable for different applications, from structural components to intricate parts. During the design phase of your project, we’ll help you determine which grade is best for the purpose of your final product.

How much does custom aluminum fabricating cost?

The cost of an aluminum fabrication project depends greatly on the project’s scope, the materials needed, the techniques and equipment used, and whether we will handle the installation. Please contact us with your project’s details and design, and we’ll provide you with a no-obligation quote.

How long will it take to complete a custom aluminum fabrication project?

Each aluminum fabrication project is different. While we pride ourselves on our fast turnaround times, there are several factors that impact the lead time of a project. During the quoting process, we’ll give you our best estimate of how long the project will take.
